Building rockets: All families should build their rockets at home. We will have some supplies at the first den meeting in April. Your scout will need a 2 liter plastic soda bottle. Do not use a plastic water bottle. Water bottles can be thinner and not designed for the CO2 gas that a soda bottle is designed for (40-55 psi at room temperature pressure when you buy them at the store, max rating 150 psi). We pressurize the rockets to 50 psi when launching.
Here are a tutorial and templates to help you build your rocket:
Launching rockets: Launching starts at 2 pm. Each scout will have at least one opportunity to launch, and we’ll plan for a second and third rounds as time permits.
Overnight Summer Camp at Camp Cherry Valley

All Bears, Webelos, and Arrow of Light scouts are invited to overnight summer camp! Overnight summer camp is an essential part of the Cub Scout experience. It forms bonds between scouts and families and motivates them for Scouts BSA.
Camp Cherry Valley is on Catalina Island. After its original 100-year lease expired, it closed for a few years. 2026 is the grand reopening. Scouters all over the South Bay are pumped to be back at camp.
What: Activities include outdoor cooking, nature, build a treasure chest, swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, BB’s, archery, handicrafts, and much more …
Dates: August 6-9, 2026
Where: Camp Cherry Valley, Avalon, CA 90704
Cost: $430 for scouts, $365 for adults. This is a good price for overnight camp.
There are no refunds except for extenuating circumstances (contagious illness or injury). Camperships are available for financial hardship (due Feb 28). The price includes transportation to and from the island.
Bring: The packing list is in the camp program guide (link coming soon)
