Pack Hike: White Point Preserve

White Point Preserve is a 102 acre open space featuring coastal sage scrub, a World War II battery, and a nature center. This hike will be 1.3 miles. Following the hike, we can check out the demonstration garden and nature center, and finally finish up across the street at the playground.

Location: Park at the White Point Nature Center parking lot (1600 W Paseo Del Mar, San Pedro, CA 90731)

Uniform: comfortable hiking clothes

All hikers should come prepared! Bring at least a backpack, hat, water bottle, and a snack.

Summer Outing: California Science Center

The California Science Center is a giant playground of wonder and learning. It will blow your kids’ minds away. Admission is free (parking costs money).

DATE: July 26, 2025

TIME: 10:00 am meet in front. Your scouts will want at least two hours to explore, but probably more.

LOCATION: Exposition Park (700 Exposition Park Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90037)

Pack Hike: McBride Trail

McBride Trail is part of Filiorium Reserve, which is a stunning cliffside overlooking the ocean in RPV. This is an easy, flat trail with great views.

Date: August 2, 2025

Time: 9 am

Location: Meet at the Filiorum Reserve Trailhead (6264 Ocean Terrace Dr, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275)

Pack Hike: Whittier Hill

Whittier Hill sits atop the Puente Hills Preserve and is one of Los Angeles’ most scenic spots. There is a 360 degree view of some iconic scenery.

This is a 4.8 mile challenge hike with virtually no shade. Scouts and parents must come prepared for a strenuous hike in the sun. Sun protection, water, and a hat are mandatory. Younger scouts may struggle with this hike and should probably sit this one out.

Location: Park at the Hacienda Hills Trailhead (14600 Orange Grove Ave, Hacienda Heights, CA 91745). If that is full, park at Orange Grove Middle School.

Summer Outing: South Coast Botanic Garden Evening Concert

The South Coast Botanic Garden, “The Jewel of the Palos Verdes Peninsula”, has 87-acres and more than 2,500 different species of plants from as far away as Australia, the Mediterranean, and southern Africa. More than 200 species of birds have been sighted here. Popular features include The Dorothy and John Bohannon Rose Garden, Living Wall, Dorothy and Allen Lay Staghorn Fern Collection, Garden for the Senses, Desert Garden, Fuchsia Garden, and Japanese Garden. There’s lots to explore!

On Thursday nights in summer, SCBG hosts a concert series for families. There are two 45-minute sets, during which families can listen, eat, explore the garden, or play in the KIDS ZONE entertainment area (yard games, parachutes, bubbles, obstacle courses, etc).

The Cub Scout pack event will be for our members to enjoy this event together as our final event of summer 2025!

WHAT: South Coast Botanic Garden Sunset Series

DATE: August 21, 2025 (80’s Night!)

TIME: 5:30 – 8 pm

ADVANCE TICKET PURCHASE IS REQUIRED. Admission is $18 per person ages 4 and up. Parking is free. Food is sold at the concert – outside food is not allowed.
