Fall Camping: First Night

Free Camping for New Families 
If you just joined the scouts, and/or your scout hasn’t ever camped before, this is a fun and easy way to get your feet wet.

Your family will be provided dinner, activities, games, overnight camping, and breakfast. Registration is limited, so sign up before it fills up.

Because this is for new families, you’ll get a chance to meet other newbies from other packs.

What: Pack overnight campout

When: October 10-11, 2026 (5pm on Sat to 9am on Sun)

Where: Hopkins Wilderness Park, (1102 Camino Real, Redondo Beach, CA 90277)

Cost is $60 for scouts/siblings and $35 for adults (add $30 per person if you want camp to provide you meals)

Service Project: Scouting For Food

Scouting for Food has been a Scouting America national service project since 1988.

Flyers are distributed to houses in local neighborhoods by Pack 234 scouts on a Saturday in November. People are asked to fill shopping bags with non-perishable food and leave them on their doorstep or curb by 9:00 am on the second Saturday, when the scouts go back out and pick up all the food.

We will be donating all food to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church food bank.

Bag distribution: Sat, Nov 7 at 9 am

Food pickup: Sat, Nov 14 at 9 am

November Pack Meeting: Fall Campout and Rocket Derby

This will be Pack 234’s first overnight pack campout of the year. We are combining it with our ROCKET DERBY.

YES, the theme is OCTOBER SKY, and we’re having it in NOVEMBER. (November Sky wasn’t available!)

Here are the details:

What: Pack overnight campout

When: November 15-16, 2026

Where: El Dorado East Regional Park

Wear: T-shirts during the day, Class A uniforms at night

Bring: Check out the Pack 234 campout packing list

Meals: Sign up to bring food for dinner on Saturday (link TBD)

Building rockets: All families should build their rockets at home. We will have supplies available at the Sep/Oct den meetings. Your scout will need a 2 liter plastic soda bottle.  Do not use a plastic water bottle.  Water bottles can be thinner and not designed for the CO2 gas that a soda bottle is designed for (40-55 psi at room temperature pressure when you buy them at the store, max rating 150 psi). We pressurize the rockets to 50 psi when launching.

Launching rockets: Launching starts at 2 pm. Each scout will have at least one opportunity to launch, and we’ll plan for a second and third rounds as time permits.

San Pedro Christmas Parade

Join Pack 234 and Troop 234 as we show our civic pride and holiday cheer for the citizens of San Pedro!

We’ll be marching in the San Pedro Spirit of the Holidays Parade.

DATE: Sunday, December 6, 2026

TIME: 12-2 pm

WHERE: See the map below. The staging order will be posted here once we are told where to line up.

WEAR: Class A uniforms. Santa hats are authorized.

Families can walk with us or line up along the route to enjoy the parade. Scouts will also get credit for service hours and hiking miles.

December Pack Meeting: Christmas Caroling

Pack 234’s will be spreading holiday cheer to our local community!

Date: December 12, 2026

Time: 10-12 am

Location: The Canterbury Retirement Community, 5801 Crestridge Rd, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275

Uniform: Class A

We’ll be singing Christmas carols as well as enjoying donuts, hot chocolate, and (for parents) coffee.

Religious Emblems Turn-In

BOOKS ARE DUE DECEMBER 15!

Families wishing to earn the Light of Christ (Tiger/Wolf) or Parvuli Dei (Bear/Webelos) religious emblems obtain the books from the pack or on your own from the Scout Shop.

You should purchase the workbook by October 15. Books are due by December 15.

Most Protestant denominations earn the P.R.A.Y. emblems. More details at the P.R.A.Y. website.

Everybody else should consult the Scouting America Religious Emblems website.

Other religions can contact our Religious Activities Coordinator for assistance in obtaining the appropriate workbook.

Workbooks take 3-6 weekends to complete.  Parents, contact our pack Religious Emblems Coordinator to obtain a book.

January Pack Meeting: Pinewood Derby

Pinewood Derby is one of Cub Scouting’s most exciting events! We will distribute kits at the December pack meeting. You can also pick one up from the Long Beach Scout Shop or Cushman-Watt Scout Shop. New families are welcome to come check out the event or even join in on the fun.

Parent Volunteers

We’re looking for some extra hands to make the event a big success.

Check-In and Race Day Information

Check-in is mandatory. If you will have a hard time making check-in, we can make alternate arrangements. Vehicles will be judged legal and impounded. Read the Pack 234 Pinewood Derby Rules for more information about check-in.

Time: 10 am – 12 pm

Location: Holy Trinity Catholic School

Uniform: Class A

Check-in will start at 10 am. Following that, we’ll race cars in den order. Siblings and parents are also welcome to build cars!

Prizes will be awarded for the fastest cars as well as the following style categories:

• Most Awesome (chosen by the scouts)
• Best Workmanship
• Best Paint Job
• Most Patriotic
• Most Humorous
• Most Creative

Building your car

Check out the Pack 234 official pinewood derby rules. We are strict about enforcing our car construction rules.

For families who need help building the car or don’t have tools, we will let you know if any pack parents offer to help families with woodworking. Check your email for details.

Scout Sunday 2027

Come worship together with other Scouts and the Holy Trinity parish community. All families and scouts are welcome. We’ll be participating in the mass along with BSA Troop 234 and Holy Trinity’s Girl Scout troops.

February Pack Meeting: Blue and Gold Banquet

The annual Blue and Gold Banquet is a celebration of the BSA’s 117th birthday and our scouting accomplishments this year. Join us for food, silliness, and memories. Our theme this year is TBD.
